About the workshop
There is something different about giving an object that has been made by hand.
In this 2.5-hour ceramics workshop in Amsterdam, you'll work with clay to create your own handmade ceramic gift. Rather than following one fixed project, you'll have the freedom to decide what you'd like to make and how you'd like it to look.
You might create a small vase, cup, dish, incense holder or another small functional object. You can then personalise it through carving, imprinting, texture and surface decoration and underglaze colors.
The workshop is about more than learning a pottery technique. It is an opportunity to slow down, work with your hands and make something with intention.
The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, with a small group, tea and coffee, and plenty of time to experiment.

Small vases and vessels

Trinket or jewellery dishes
Incense holders
Small decorative objects
Other functional ceramic pieces
You can make your piece personal through carving, imprinting, texture and pattern.
There is no fixed design to copy, so each piece will be different.
Is this a beginner-friendly pottery workshop?
Yes. No previous ceramics or pottery experience is required.
The workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as people who have worked with clay before. I'll guide you through the basic techniques and help you develop your idea, while leaving enough space for you to experiment independently.
All clay, tools and materials are provided.
What happens after the workshop?
Once the workshop is finished, your piece will stay at the studio to dry before being fired in the kiln.
I’ll be glazing your piece with a transparent glaze if you prefer. Your finished ceramic piece will usually be ready for collection approximately 2 weeks after the workshop. You'll receive a message when it is ready.
If you're making a gift, you'll then have a completely handmade ceramic object to give, made by you rather than bought from a shop.
As with all ceramics, the kiln is part of the process. Small changes, variations and imperfections can occur during drying and firing.

If your plans change, please get in touch as soon as possible and I'll do my best to move your booking to another available workshop.
Changes and cancellations aren't possible within the final week before the workshop.
About RAVA Ceramics
RAVA Ceramics is an independent ceramics studio in Amsterdam founded by Damla Aygun.
The studio explores touch, texture, nature and time through functional and sculptural ceramic work, with a particular interest in surface decoration and carving techniques, organic geometric patterns and traditional forms.
The workshops bring this approach into an accessible, hands-on experience, creating space to slow down, work with clay and discover your own way of making.
