Clay & Design is a three-hour workshop that brings design thinking and handbuilding together.
We begin with five design principles, not as rules, but as lenses. How does form follow function? What does an object communicate through its shape and texture? How do constraints become creative resources? Then we put the theory down and you build your own object from clay, guided by a brief you write for yourself.
No design background needed. No ceramics experience required. You'll leave with a piece you made from a genuine brief, and a different way of looking at every object you use every day.
Three hours. Amsterdam. Your piece fired and ready to collect within a few weeks.
Looking for some time where your phone is away and your hands remember making something meaningful?
Clay & Rituals is a three-hour handbuilding workshop in Amsterdam.
We begin with a question: what moment in your day do you want to make more intentional? Through guided reflection, you'll map your own rituals. The small daily acts that mark time and say, this moment is chosen. Then you'll design and build a clay object for that moment, with your hands, at your own pace.
No experience needed. No perfect result expected. There is tea and coffee, there is quiet, and there is something that happens when your hands take over and your phone is away.
Your piece will be fired and ready to take home within a few weeks. It will sit somewhere you see it every day: a cup, a bowl, an incense holder, a small vessel. Not just an object, but a reminder of that afternoon and what it felt like to slow down enough to make something real.
Clay has been part of human ritual for 10,000 years. This workshop is a small continuation of that.
