Women - Life - Freedom

Three bodies holding the flame of those who fight, mourn and rebuild.

8 March is not something “festive”.

The three small forms carry the words Jin · Jiyan · AzadîWoman · Life · Freedom.

They hold purple flowers through their openings, and their roots/branches continue onto the curtain, stitched in the same colour. Together they’re a reminder of all the women whose lives are not visible from this quiet Dutch street.

Behind this work is my own homesickness. Not for food or familiar places this time, but for being shoulder to shoulder with sisters from many mothers, shouting in the streets, facing a barricade together, feeling that shared courage in our bodies.

The “curtain” here is important: it separates inside and outside, safety and danger, visibility and silence. For many women, it’s both a tool of control and the line that, once crossed, becomes the start of a riot.

The closed forms are like eggs: heavy, rooted, and still full of possibility. They stand for all the hidden potentials behind every window and every door, waiting for the right moment to bloom.

This is my small greeting to women everywhere who are still fighting for their lives and their freedom.

And for the people who were passing by the studio, I hope this window made them pause for a second, and think.
